Sisters by Blood and Not

Three sisters of flesh and of blood
Each one older than I


First sister is a kindred spirit
Love for art is what we share
Creating it is much like breathing air


Second sister strong and brave
A path for me she has paved
Showing me what's good and true
Differences for us are few

Third sister causes quite a riot
Sometimes I wish she'd just be quiet!
Sisterhood is torn by pride
I dare to hope that deep inside
She has love for me


Two more sisters not of blood
but a gift from God above
in a different sort of way

We fight, we cry like sisters do
but I promise we'll get through



Our bond is strong
Not to be broken
Take this poem as a token
I don't plan on ever leaving you


Sorry for the damage done
I swear that I won't ever run
I'll stay and make it up to you


Blame for you and blame for me
With forgiveness we'll be free
Suddenly we are grown
If I only I had known
I wouldn't be my better self without you


I will break down bitter fences
and build defenses around you
for no matter what commences
I will see us through
